With over 1.5 million refugees, Uganda stands as the largest refugee-hosting country in Africa, presenting both humanitarian and developmental challenges.
VIDEA’s Refugees and Humanitarian Assistance programme provides targeted support to displaced individuals, focusing on psycho-social care, skill development, and community integration. We work alongside local and international partners to ensure that refugees receive access to critical resources such as healthcare, education, and safe shelter. Recognising the trauma that many have experienced, we prioritise mental health counselling and emotional support services, especially for children, young people, and survivors of gender-based violence. Beyond these immediate interventions, we facilitate vocational training and entrepreneurship initiatives, aiming to help refugees establish sustainable livelihoods that benefit both their families and the wider community.
By promoting collaboration between refugees and host communities, we foster social cohesion, reduce tensions, and enable a spirit of shared growth. Our approach emphasises long-term resilience over temporary fixes, ensuring that refugees develop the confidence and skills necessary to rebuild their lives with dignity. Ultimately, the Refugees and Humanitarian Assistance programme highlights VIDEA’s commitment to upholding human rights, cultivating compassion, and empowering vulnerable populations to create fulfilling futures, regardless of their circumstances.
