Good governance and inclusive leadership are vital for driving meaningful, community-wide progress. However, in Uganda, many leadership positions remain inaccessible to youth and women, limiting their ability to influence policies and decisions that affect their daily lives.
VIDEA’s Leadership and Civic Engagement programme seeks to bridge this gap by nurturing a new generation of proactive leaders who are equipped to create positive social change. We organise training sessions that cover public speaking, policy analysis, strategic planning, and conflict resolution—essential skills that empower emerging leaders to engage effectively in civic matters. Participants receive mentorship from experienced professionals across various sectors, allowing them to develop networks and gain valuable perspectives on governance and community development. We also facilitate youth-led projects that encourage participants to apply what they’ve learned, from organising community clean-ups to advocating for improved public services at the local council level.
Through these hands-on experiences, young leaders and women build confidence, learn how to navigate political structures, and discover ways to collaborate with government institutions. By championing inclusive leadership and fostering a culture of civic engagement, VIDEA ensures that voices from all corners of society—particularly those who have been underrepresented—are heard, respected, and included in the decision-making process.
